Format Requirements for Paper Submission

Papers will be reviewed on the basis of an extended summary (not exceeding six pages) of sufficient detail to permit reasonable evaluation. The extended summary can be submitted either electronically at this site, or in hardcopy to the address indicated on the call for papers. There are no format requirements. However, once papers are accepted, the authors prepare what appears in print; for this there are format requirements.

Note that the extended summary submitted electronically must be either a Postscript or a PDF file.

For Microsoft Word users: if you do not have software which generates PDF files, you can do one of two things:

  • Generate a postscript document from Word: Print to a file using a postscript driver-based printer. You do not need to have such a printer; you only need to add a printer definition for a postscript printer, and then print to a file using its driver. The file generated will have a .prn extension. Just submit that file.
  • Use an online document conversion website: There are both free (example: http://www.goBCL.com/) and subscription-based (example: https://createpdf.adobe.com/) web sites offering Word to PDF file conversion.

For Acrobat version 5 users: When generating a PDF file, please take care to create a file that itself generates compatible postscript. Your file *must* pass the postscript printing test on UNIX systems as well. If we cannot print your file then we will not accept it. We have seen problems with Acrobat version 5. If you are using Acrobat version 5 then you may need to select Acrobat 4 screen-mode compatibility in Acrobat 5.0 PDF maker when generating your PDF file.
